Sculpture & Carvings

Spirits of the Valley

This sculpture was finished in 2007.

It was created for an art show called The Art of Zoar Valley at the Springville Center for the Arts.

http://www.highwayendfilms.com/zoar/Artists/page59/page59.html

It stands 8 feet high with a base that is approximately 3 feet x 3 feet.

The large center “spirit” is carved from a single piece of Basswood.  It was rough cut to the extent possible on a band saw, but the form was created and refined using a mallet and wood chisels.

The base is made from two pieces of Brazilian Oak.

The three smaller “spirits”  are made from cedar wood reclaimed from a fallen barn that was built in the 1800′s.
